KEY FEATURES

About the client

Our client is a global digital product provider based in Canada. Recognizing that employees’ productivity is directly linked to their well-being, they decided to help companies foster healthier work environments. The idea was to develop a platform for corporate wellness.

They chose Demigos as their tech partner because we have deep expertise in healthtech and a proven track record with medical wearable integrations—while offering competitive pricing and a great culture fit.

1

When reaching out to us, the client had the following key requirements:

  • Scope of work: Pre-launch product audit that evolved into full-scale corporate wellness software development.
  • Product: A cross-platform iOS and Android mobile app for employees to track their health metrics; a dashboard for employers to access aggregated, anonymized data about the team’s well-being; and an admin panel.
  • Integrations with wearables: Google Fit, Fitbit, Apple Health, Garmin.

Project overview

When the client came to us, corporate wellness app development wasn’t part of the plan—the platform was already being built by another team. Our initial task was to conduct an external product audit to confirm it was ready for a successful public launch.

Yet, during the audit, our experts discovered many issues that could hinder the product launch and future updates. We suggested multiple solutions, ranging from bug fixing and code refactoring to a complete overhaul, which involved developing corporate wellness software from scratch. After careful consideration, the client chose the full rebuild and handed the project over to us.

Project challenges

The client’s product concept was complex, and joining the project midway only added to the corporate wellness app development challenges that we had to overcome.

Existing low-quality code base

The solution the client brought us—the code, its structure, and the underlying logic—failed to match the high industry standards we uphold at Demigos and couldn’t be scaled or upgraded. So, while building a corporate well-being app wasn’t part of our original task, we had to start from scratch to turn the client’s idea into a fully functional product.

UX design for user motivation

One of the app’s key features—calculating an employee’s health score—relies on regular health data inputs. The challenge was designing an intuitive and engaging UX that would encourage users to enter their health vitals daily. To simplify this task for users even further, we also had to streamline automatic data input from various medical devices.

Unreliable wearable integration

To speed up corporate wellness software development, the client decided to use a third-party wearable integration service. Despite years in the market, the service demanded extensive integration efforts and didn’t allow us to set up basic usage flows. So, our team had to create custom workarounds to enable a direct connection with medical devices.

Tight deadlines

When the client first approached us, they believed the platform was nearly ready for release. However, it turned out we needed to build the corporate wellness tracking software from the ground up. It means our team had to work under tight deadlines. We had three months to release the first version of the product and another three to refine it.

Our process

01 - Product audit

1 Sprint

During the product audit, we reviewed:

  • Server code
  • Mobile code
  • Infrastructure
  • HIPAA & GDPR compliance
  • Product quality
  • UI/UX design

The audit uncovered critical issues that had to be resolved before the launch. The client handed over the project to us, and we started the employee wellness app development from scratch.

02 -Discovery and analytics

2 Sprints

Our team began the wellness software development process by studying the project and understanding the client’s expectations. We held a meeting with the client to discuss their vision, budget, and deadlines. From there, we created a requirements document outlining the product's business concept and a detailed technical solution.

03 - UI/UX design

Throughout the project

Employees were expected to use the app every day. This meant we had to create an interface that encouraged them to regularly engage with the app. Our designer created wireframes and visual designs that met the project requirements, incorporating current trends and best UX practices.

04 - Development

10 Sprints

Our developers built the product's frontend and backend, configured the infrastructure, and handled wearable integrations. We also ensured that all components—mobile app, web dashboard, and admin panel—fully complied with HIPAA and GDPR requirements.

05 - Release & deployment

After developing the core components, we deployed the solution to Azure cloud infrastructure. We also published the mobile app on the App Store and Google Play.

Next, our team rolled out several incremental releases to add new features and make some improvements.

06 - Support & maintenance

ONGOING

Our cooperation with the client on the corporate wellness app development didn’t end with the product release. We continue to provide ongoing support, monitoring the platform’s performance and addressing technical issues.

WHat we did

Reviewed the product

We performed a detailed product audit that revealed major issues in the client’s solution. As a result, the client avoided releasing a subpar product in the market and ultimately received a high-end, scalable platform—developed by our team.

Refined the client’s idea

During the product audit and subsequent discovery phase, we identified several optimization opportunities for the client’s MVP. For instance, we discovered inefficient monthly spending on cloud services, which we later reduced by a factor of eight.

Created a new UI/UX design

The product's success heavily relied on keeping users engaged. We created a UI/UX design that encouraged employees to log their health data every day—setting goals and accessing information became much simpler.

Implemented a health score algorithm

As part of corporate wellness app development, we implemented an advanced algorithm to calculate users' health scores. These scores let employees see how their health metrics affect their well-being and help make lifestyle changes to improve their vitals.

Ensured HIPAA & GDPR compliance

The product deals with sensitive health information, so it must comply with strict regulatory standards. Our team ensured the app meets HIPAA technical requirements for protecting health data and GDPR standards for safeguarding personal privacy.

Tested the product

We needed to check that the product performed well under the expected amount of traffic. So, after developing the corporate wellness software, our team conducted load testing, confirming the app’s backend could support the demands of the launch.

Wondering how much it costs to build a corporate wellness app?

Client feedback

“The most impressive about working with Demigos is their ability to advise us on things and improve on our designs. If we were at odds over an issue, Demigos provided us with their advice and counsel, which we still use today. Well done, guys. I'm happy to continue to work with you.” — the Client’s CEO.
